Panic Disorder With Agoraphobia
Have you ever been in a situation wherein you feel that the setting in which you are in makes you very anxious and fearful that you might lose control of your actions in the event that you suffer from a panic attack? If you have this general sense or feeling that there are certain environments that are so unfamiliar and uncomfortable that these trigger your anxiety, you might have Agoraphobia. Specific places, which seem to trigger the irrational fear of social embarrassment at the onset of a panic attack are the following: 1) crowded places, 2) on a bridge, 3) traveling in any kind of vehicle, or 4) being home alone.
Panic disorder with Agoraphobia is a really terrible combination because aside from having the setting-induced attacks, you also would experience them frequently at times that you would not expect it to happen. Because of this, the condition would further be aggravated because your anticipation would make you feel distressed and anxious even more. You would then develop avoidance to the places and situations that you know would trigger the attacks.
The causes and factors that contribute to the existence of this condition are not yet pinpointed but there are studies showing that a stressful environment or a traumatic episode could produce and induce this condition. It could also have some connection with the biological wirings in a person’s brain, which process perception.
Despite the lack of adequate evidences pointing to the root cause of panic disorder with Agoraphobia, it is good to know that there are several possible treatments for this disabling condition. It is best to consult your psychologist or physician so that you could be properly assessed. They would prescribe you with the necessary course of action to have yourself treated. There is a choice between cognitive or behavioral therapy, and even a combination of both. Your psychologist would advise you as to the appropriate option to choose. The goal of therapies is for you to erase the negative thoughts and irrational fears that you are experiencing. Aside from these, there are also medications you could take, as prescribed by your physician, to treat your symptoms.
Know how to stop anxiety attacks just before it happens.
